Chess In Schools

Lesson: Learning Outside the Classroom

We are now in our 13th year of delivering Chess tuition in schools. We started it off as a trial being run by the Education Endowment Fund (EEF) to see if there was a correlation between the skills needed to play Chess and problem solving. Since that initial trial Chess has been taught on a weekly basis in Years 4/5 and 6 and is an important part of our wider curriculum offer.

Children from the school have, over the years, gone on to play in the Merseyside Chess Championships, North-West Regional Competitions and the National finals in London.
