Mapping and Observational Skills

Lesson: Geography

Class: Year 1 Year: 2024 - 2025

In our geography lessons, students develop their mapping and observational skills by exploring familiar surroundings. They begin by locating key features on an aerial photograph of the school and identifying the country and town or village where they live. Pupils will then create a map of the classroom, using objects to represent distance and direction. By using maps, students will also recognize important features of the school grounds. Through a playground survey, they’ll learn to gather data and express how they feel about different areas, using the results to design improvements for the playground based on their findings.
